There is something magical about senior sessions in the mountains of American Fork Canyon, and Tibble Fork Reservoir never disappoints. Between the towering pine trees, glowing mountain light, and breathtaking views of Mount Timpanogos, it is one of my favorite locations for seniors who want variety, adventure, and a session that truly feels like Utah Mountains.
Brent’s senior session was the perfect example of why I love photographing graduating seniors here in Utah County. Brent is part of the Class of 2026 and brought so many meaningful pieces of his life into his session. One of my favorite things about senior photography is getting to celebrate not just graduation, but everything that helped shape who these seniors are becoming.
Brent is incredibly well-rounded and hardworking. During his session, he brought his ballroom dance outfit, his horset hat he personally broke himself, and his dirt bike. He also graduated from Mountainland Technical College as an EMT while still in high school, which is such an amazing accomplishment.
Another thing to expect at Tibble Fork Reservoir is a variety of lighting situations. At the beginning of Brent’s session, the sun was still high and intense, we started with his formal outfit, his ballroom dance showcase. This dramatic lighting actually worked perfectly to have the sun peaking over the moutnains. The bold light added contrast and energy that made those images stand out just like he does.
One of the best things about shooting in the canyon is how quickly the lighting changes. As the sun drops behind the mountains, everything softens. The harsh light disappears and the canyon begins to glow. Once the sun goes down, the remaining light beautifully illuminates Mount Timpanogos and creates the dreamiest mountain backdrop for portraits. This is usually when the session starts feeling extra relaxed and magical.
Tibble Fork Reservoir also gives so much variety in one location. You can get:
For seniors who want to include hobbies, sports, animals, or vehicles, it is an incredible place to create a session that feels personal and meaningful.
Most importantly, your senior session should be FUN.
Senior year is such a huge milestone, and your photos should celebrate everything you have accomplished and everything ahead of you. Whether you are bringing horses like Brent, sports equipment, instruments, cars, dirt bikes, or just your personality, your session should feel exciting and authentic to you.
By the end of Brent’s session, the mountains were glowing, everyone was laughing, and it felt less like taking pictures and more like celebrating who he has become. Those are always the sessions that turn into the most meaningful images. We may have lost a tassel in he moving motorcycle pictures-but i’m sure he would agree it was worth the end result.
If you are planning your senior photos in Utah County and want mountain views, variety, and an adventurous feel, Tibble Fork Reservoir is easily one of the best senior photo locations in Utah.
